Empowering students to take eco-action

Project Goal

To inspire, educate, and empower university students to the positives of living more sustainable lifestyles by taking them on educational outdoor retreats, and facilitating leadership workshops and screenings of powerful environmental short films.

We believe that for students to care about the environment, they must first experience the environment.

Project Overview

In August and September, JuntoVenture members organized groups of students at various west coast universities to engage in backpacking retreats at locations such as Trinity Alps (Northern California), Mt. Hood (Oregon), Desolation Wilderness (Northeast California), Big Sur (Central California), and San Rafael Wilderness (Central California). These retreats were aimed at creating collaborative strategies to engage their college piers in a proactive approach to the environment. At each retreat students from different campuses networked and built dynamic bonds that are responsible for JuntoVenture’s original team foundation.

During the 2006 Fall, five JuntoVenture Team members set off on a 2 month tour, visiting fourteen universities from San Diego, CA to Bellingham, WA to inspire students to modify their daily habits by screening the “Are You Afraid of this World,” documentary.

They successfuly recruited over 150 university students within that period to get involved in helping JuntoVenture cultivate its vision of a sustainable future
